Cloud technology an empowering tool for construction firms: expert “Information is power.”

Mark Lyons, a business development veteran at construction technology specialist firm Procore, made this observation in a report as he touted the benefits of adopting cloud technology in managing project information.

“The project, however complicated, has to be contained and definable, with its working parts neatly visible in the whirl of daily (even hourly) detail. And the project must tread lightly enough that simple inertia doesn’t begin to call the shots,” he stressed.

Lyons thus advised construction honchos to “put down the truck keys” as they seek information needed for round the clock project management.

Cloud technology refers to a  group of high powered computers on the back end that store, manage, and process information and data that are pushed as graphs, charts, dashboards and reports to the front end, which can be accessed real time with mobile devices such as cell phones and tablet computers.

“Drawings, RFIs, the daily logs, project deadlines and benchmarks are now drawn together into colorful graphs and dashboards providing a crystal clear, holistic snapshot of where the project stands (and where it is falling) on every front. Follow the colored lines and learn in an instant where deadlines and budgets are and which ones are not being met. It’s all right there,” Lyons explained.

“Cloud-based construction project management software collects and delivers complex, real-time project intelligence to a smartphone, in a reporting interface that is as clear as a bell,” he further stated.
