Seaports in Georgia and South Carolina have announced operation shutdowns in the next few days in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew’s landfall.

Among others, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has closed terminals at the Port of Brunswick until October 10. Port of Savannah will cease operations until October 7. Meanwhile, Garden City Terminal and Ocean Terminal will shut down until October 8.

GPA further announced that vessel activity will tentatively resume on October 9, while operations will start October 10, if weather conditions bode well.

Similarly, South Carolina Ports said its cargo terminals in Charleston and Georgetown will be closed over the weekend. Gate hours are also expected to normalize October 10.

Hurricane Matthew is a category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Meteorologists expect Matthew to remain a category 3 hurricane as it barrels through the Florida coast.

The eye of the storm is expected to descend over the east coast of the Florida peninsula tonight and near the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina on Saturday.
