Liberty Mutual’s Liberty International Underwriters this month announced the appointment of an industry veteran to lead its environmental practice in the United States.
William Bell will serve as senior vice president of US Environmental, responsible for several products and suites, including contractor and professional services liability, fixed site pollution legal liability, contractors’ pollution liability and storage tank third party liability.
He will also oversee the LIU Environmental Advantage product suite, which brings together environmental impairment liability (EIL), general liability (GL) and errors and omissions (E&O) with limits of up to $10 million.
Bell brings nearly 30 years of industry experience to LIU, including several years in environmental insurance. He most recently worked as a vice president with
Chubb Corp., a position he held since January 2004 and under which he spoke on a variety of environmental insurance topics at industry conference.
Bell will join LIU’s New York City office where he will report to Michael Finnegan, chief underwriting officer for LIU’s US operations.
Along with Bell, LIU has hired Mike Nukk as senior vice president of marine and Rick Niehaus as senior vice president of energy and construction. They will also report to Finnegan.

LIU works under Liberty Mutual Insurance to distribute global specialty lines products and services through independent agents and brokers around the world.
