Trucking sector posts jobs recovery in August: labor department The transportation sector added 15,000 jobs this August, according to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Statistics.

The trucking subsector specifically saw an increase of around 3,400 jobs in the said month, a consecutive growth from July’s gain of 1,700 jobs, which is a recovery from June’s 6,300 loss. Year to date, the sector saw a net loss of 4,400 jobs.

August’s increase is the widest since December last year when truckers added 5,300 jobs.

Meanwhile, the storage and warehousing subsector posted the largest increase with the addition of 4,300 jobs to the economy, followed by couriers and messengers, whose ranks increased by 4,000.

Further, the report said the unemployment rate for the transportation sector increased to 7% from 6% year on year in August. The rate is comparatively high against the national average of 5%, which has remained static for the third consecutive month.
