A brewing storm is expected to turn into a full-fledged hurricane over the weekend as it hovers over the Atlantic, according to reports.

Atlantic beaches across the US will experience rough surf as the week ends. AccuWeather hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski added that Karl will shift towards the northwest into an area of the Atlantic where the atmosphere will drive the storm to gain momentum.

"Karl is likely to become a hurricane by the end of this week," Kottlowski said. As Karl reaches hurricane status, it will hover over the north of the Caribbean Islands bearing damaging winds and flooding rain.

However, forecasters predict that the hurricane will not stay over the US for long.  "There is only a slight chance that Karl will move far enough to the northwest to hit the U.S.," Kottlowski added.

Additionally, a gust  of cool air is seen to drive Karl away from the U.S, but meteorologists said to expect it to linger over the eastern US, affecting the routes of cruise and freight ships crossing the south western Atlantic Ocean.
