Managing general agent Scottish American’s newest employee brings with him an impressive backstory.
Johnnie O. Yellock II, who joined the company’s Dallas office this month, is a Texas native and former Air Force staff sergeant. While on combat duty in Afghanistan in 2011, both of his legs were seriously injured by an improvised explosive device.
Yellock applied tourniquets to his own legs and then continued to assist his team byb providing helicopter landing zone guidance to medically evacuate himself and his interpreter to a nearby Forward Operating Base.
After going through 30 surgeries over three years, he was medically retired from active duty, but not without an impressive array of honors. For his actions, Yellock received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and a Combat Action Medal.
Now, Yellock enjoys public speaking and serving fellow veterans – particularly other service members who were wounded – and Gold Star families through various non-profits.
In hiring Yellock, Scottish American praised his self-motivation and said it hopes to hire more individuals from all walks of life.
