Far Out Friday: How much would it cost to insure James Bond?

Hopefully James Bond’s missions pay well, because insuring agent 007’s myriad of sports cars would not come cheap for the spy

From the industry with love: as a tribute to the new James Bond film Spectre, professional underwriters in the UK have attempted to calculate how much it would cost to insure the famous spy’s myriad of sports cars.

Needless to say, Q would not be thrilled by the sum.

In looking just at the cars that Daniel Craig’s Bond has driven, it estimates:
  • The Jaguar C-X75 would cost about $264,000 to insure, for a potential payout of $1,600,000
  • The Aston Martin DB10 would cost about $43,000 to insure, for a potential payout of $1,200,000
  • The Land Rover would cost about $19,000 to insure, for a potential payout that could exceed $75,000
  • The Range Rover would cost about $23,000 to insure, for a potential payout of $201,000
In total, agent 007 could be looking at about $350,000 in annual insurance premiums – that is, if he could even find someone willing to provide him coverage. Kwik Fit Insurance Services, admittedly, would not.

MI6 may find itself underwater with insurance premiums

“We’re sure the right insurer is out there for James, but given his track record and the, shall we say, specialist nature of his cars, we will politely decline,” Stewart Barnett, marketing director with Kwik Fit Insurance Services, told the Coventry Telegraph.

Barnett says that he appreciates Bond’s services to Great Britain, but “when it comes to insurance, they’re a bit too risky for us.”
